Increase your customer base
EBT Card Processing service allows you to increase your customer base by accepting
EBT cards as a method of payment. EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) simply
means the electronic delivery of government funds. Government programs such
as Social Security, WIC, TANF and SNAP "food stamps" issue benefits to recipients
via an electronic card known as an EBT card. Similar to a debit card, EBT
card processing allows recipients to authorize the transfer of their government
benefits to pay for food, clothing and other items. Your business needs to
position itself to accept these transactions as these government programs grow and
more are added.
- With EBT acceptance added to your merchant account, EBT processing is as easy as
credit/debit card transactions. Utilize the same equipment to process
EBT as credit/debit transactions, which makes accepting EBT convenient for both
you and your customer. Contact us today to learn how to add EBT card processing
as a method of payment for your business.
- As the need for these government-sponsored programs continues to grow, the revenue
available to Food and Consumer Services certified stores who accept EBT cards is
experiencing tremendous growth as well.
- All states have systems that use magnetic stripe cards and online authorization
of transactions. When paying for groceries, the customer’s benefits card is
run through an electronic reader or a point of sale terminal (POS), and the consumer
enters their secret PIN to access the benefits account. Then, electronically, the
processor verifies the PIN and the account balance, and sends an authorization or
denial back to the retailer.
- The consumer’s account is then debited for the amount of the purchase, and
the retailer’s account is credited. No money or food stamps change hands.
Payment is made to the retailer through the normal credit card settlement process.
